Though Yamaha first began producing four-wheel ATVs in 1985, it wasn't until three years later that the company released the Blaster make. The company's best selling quad under 250 cc, Yamaha continued to produce the Blaster make until 2006. In 2001 it featured similar specifications found in previous and subsequent years. - The 2001 Blaster came with a two-stroke, forward inclined, single-cylinder engine. It had a displacement of 195 cc, (11.90 cubic inches), a bore and stroke of 2.60 by 2.24 inches and a compression ratio of 6.6 to 1.0. The engine featured a separate lubricator, an air cooling system and a Mikuni VM26SS carburetor. The Blaster also came equipped with NGK BR8ES spark plugs and took air cooled, two-stroke engine oil.
- Other systems equipped on the 2001 Blaster include a kick starter, a capacitive discharge ignition (C.D.I.), a C.D.I magneto generator and a wet multi-disc clutch operated by the driver's left hand. The quad came with a constant-mesh, six speed transmission with left foot operation. It had a helical gear primary reduction system with a reduction ratio of 3.227 and a chain drive secondary system with a ratio of 3.077.
- Equipped on a steel tube frame, the 2001 Blaster came with a caster angle of 9.0 degrees and a trail of 1.57 inches. In the front, the quad featured a double wishbone suspension system with coil spring/oil damper shocks. In the rear it came equipped with a swing-arm suspension with coil spring/gas-oil damper shocks. Both front and rear wheels had a travel of 7.09 inches.
- Drum brakes came equipped on the front of the 2001 Blaster, operated by the driver's right hand. In back, the Blaster had single disc brakes with right foot operation. The quad took tubeless tires in both front and rear, size AT21 by 7-10 in the front and AT21 by 10-8 in the back.
- The Blaster was 68.3 inches in length, 40.7 in width and 40.9 in height. It weighed in at 337 lb. with fuel and oil. The quad had a wheelbase of 43.3 inches, a turning radius of 118 inches and a seat height of 29.1. The ground clearance was only 4.7 inches, further preventing this quad from traveling across rugged trails and riding surfaces. It had a gas tank capacity of 2.38 gallons with a 0.53-gallon reserve.
