How to Convert a DRZ E to a DRZ S

104 3

    Front Turn Signals

    • 1). Disconnect the negative, or black, cable from the battery with a metric hex wrench.

    • 2). Loosen and remove the mounting bolts at the underside of the seat on each side of the motorcycle with a metric socket wrench. Save the bolts. Remove the seat to provide access to the main wiring harness and branch wire connectors.

    • 3). Position the turn signal switch on the handlebars against the inner end of the left grip. Tighten the fixing bolt at the clamp with a metric hex wrench. Allow the switch wires and the connector to hang from the switch.

    • 4). Position the right and left front turn signal assemblies at the upper ends of the corresponding fork tubes. Tighten the bolts at each mounting bracket with a metric hex wrench.

    • 5). Route the wires and the connector from the turn signal switch along the underside of the handlebars. Attach the right and left turn-signal wire connectors to the appropriate ports marked “R” and “L” at the switch-wire connector. Secure the mid-portions of the wires to the handlebars in a tidy manner with nylon ties.

    Rear Fender Extension

    • 1). Position the top of the rear fender extension against the underside of the rear fender. Move the extension forward or back, as necessary, so the radius configuration of the top fits uniformly against the underside of the fender. Mark the locations of the bolt ports on the extension at the underside and sides of the fender with a felt-tip marker.

    • 2). Set up a power drill or cordless drill with a 3/16-inch drill bit. Drill holes for bolts at each mark. Attach the extension to the fender with the provided bolts that you tighten with the hex wrench.

    • 3). Feed the wires for the taillight-turn signal assembly through the opening on the outer face of the taillight mount at the extension. Reach inside the extension and pull the wires fully through as you position the assembly against the mount. Attach the assembly with the provided bolts and the hex wrench.

    • 4). Route the wires and connectors for the taillight-turn signal assembly over the top of the fender strut at the underside of the rear fender. Attach the connector to the unused branch wire connector marked “TL” at the wire harness where the seat was removed. Secure the mid-portion of the wires to the strut and the harness with nylon ties.

    Brake Light Switch

    • 1). Position the brake light switch on the frame tube above the base of the rear brake pedal at the right side of the motorcycle. Ensure the spring-loaded button on the switch is facing toward the rear of the bike.

    • 2). Attach the switch to the frame tube with the provided clamp and hex bolt. Partially tighten the bolt at this point.

    • 3). Slide the switch down the frame tube. Swivel the switch, as necessary, so the end of the button is against the forward end of the brake-pedal base. Tighten the clamp.

    • 4). Route the wire and connector from the switch up the frame tube to the wire harness. Attach the connector to the unused branch wire and gray connector. Secure the wire to the frame tube at two points with nylon ties.

    • 5). Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery. Reattach the seat using the original bolts.
