Is there anyone who can give a person who has not heard of the name "Sherlock Holmes"? I know this would be the triumph card.
When one heard the name, a man with a pipe carrying a cane in his right hand, wearing an overcoat comes in our mind who can amaze strangers telling him about his secrets.
That's the Sherlock Holmes, the master of all the detectives.
221B Baker Street might be the most famous address in the whole world where this master passed his whole life.
He was created by Scottish author and physician, Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle, (22 May 1859 - 7 July 1930) in 1887, in the novel "A Study in Scarlet".
But this immortal Detective was completely incomplete without a doctor, Doctor John H.
Watson, who was also the narrator of the epic journey of Sherlock Holmes.
They together solved totally fifty six cases written after "A Study in Scarlet" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle between three more novels and fifty six stories.
The stories were written as a series in "The Strand Magazine" in 1891.
Sherlock Holmes is listed as "The Most Portrayed Movie Character" by "Guinness World Records" as 75 actors played the character in over 211 films!!! Sherlock Holmes most amazing part was his ability to draw large conclusion from the smallest observation.
He could have concluded by watching you that your young servant girl is very careless, if you have a scratch on your shoe!!! He had a very straightforward view to conclude his observation upon what we see and what it indicates.
His another specialty was forensic.
He used to do the forensic tests of the trace evidences like fingerprints, shoeprints, ballistics, handwritings or even tobacco ash by himself.
He liked to take the crime emphasizing and maintaining the crimes integrity.
The creator of the character, Sir Conan Doyle was influenced by Dr.
Joseph Bell, for whom Doyle had worked as a clerk at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, to create this great detective.
Like Dr.
Bell, we don't find too much women involved in Holmes life.
The only one who impressed him was Irene Adler, "The Woman", who was actually in one story, "A Scandal in Bohemia".
Though his knowledge on Chemistry, Anatomy, Sensational Literature and British Law was awesome, but he didn't know the ABC of the Literature, Philosophy, Astronomy, Politics and other UNNECESSARY things to him, as to him," Learning useless things would merely reduce my ability to learn useful things".
That's our Sherlock Holmes, who can play violin very nicely, retires to a bee farm at his final case, "The Last Bow" in 1914.
"The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes" is the final collection of Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, which was originally published in 1927, it contains stories published between 1921 and 1927.
In the book "The Adventure of the Final Problem" in 1893, this master of disguise was killed by his archenemy, Professor Moriarty, but he was taken back alive for the pressure from the fans.
But this wasn't a necessary step to be taken by Sir Doyle, because this Master minded detective will last forever in our mind, with his integrity, his intellectuality, just as Dr.
Watson said," For the one and only time I caught a glimpse of a great heart as well as of a great brain".
He is the man to be remembered forever.
