Dog Nutrition Facts - How Safe is Your Dog"s Diet
You can't expect your dog to stay healthy if you're feeding them table scraps.
Our medical researchers have a lot of experience in finding out what is good (and bad) for our dogs.
There are certain meats and vegetables your dog can eat as table scraps, but never give them things like broccoli, alcohol or chocolate.
All three of these are dangerous and unhealthy for your pet.
A "Premium" dry dog food is better for them than canned (wet) dog foods due to the canned foods having tons of preservatives in them.
The food you choose for your dog should have adequate vitamins, minerals, protein and carbohydrates.
50% of their food should come from carbohydrates.
This is very important! Never buy dog food that contains by-products, soy, corn or bone-meal.
Please read the labels carefully.
There are conditions to the basic diet.
For instance, if your dog already has diabetes, then they need more protein and less carbohydrates.
A dog with allergies needs Omega 3 and Omega 6 which are modified proteins.
An obese dog should have 2/3 the amount of food you have normally been feeding them.
Eating things in moderation is the same for dogs as it is for humans.
Also, increase their fiber intake because it will aid in digestion and help with their weight loss.
You should always get advice from your Veterinarian "first" before putting them on a restrictive diet.
They will always refer you to the proper guidelines for special treatment for your dog.
Sometimes what we think is best for our beloved canine isn't always the right choice.
All you need to do is a little research and read dog food labels so your pet doesn't suffer.
They can't talk to you so you have to make sure you are giving them the proper nutrition.
When you take time to investigate different foods for your dog, it could very well save his/her life.
