What Exactly is Double Eyelid Surgery?
Most frequently, it is to improve the eyesight because the upper lid is sagging and causing vision to be impaired.
For the lower lid, it is more often cosmetic, as the lower lid tends to sag and bag with age.
Both eyelids may require this cosmetic procedure for a person who wants younger looking eyes.
Having both eyelids done at the same time is called double eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty.
This is a minimally invasive procedure designed to cosmetically reduce eyebags, eliminate fat in the eyelid area, and eliminate excess skin in the eyelid area.
The double eyelid surgery does not correct the crow's feet or other wrinkles or sagging eyebrows, although aesthetic procedures for these areas can be done in conjunction with the blepharoplasty.
This procedure is highly effective and the results are predictably good in restoring a less tired and younger looking face.
The procedure usually takes anywhere from one to two hours and can be done in an outpatient facility or with an overnight stay.
Either general or local anesthesia may be used.
The recovery period is relatively short, and patients may usually return to work within three to five days.
Some of the things one may experience during this recovery period are temporary bruising, swelling, or tightness of the eyelids.
Rarely, occasional numbness may also occur.
There will be some occasional itching, dryness, and sensitivity to light.
Following the board certified surgeon's post operative instructions will aid the patient in a swift recovery.
