Finding the Right Custom Cabinets

Most people who do not have a new or remodeled home would like to change their kitchen. Custom cabinets with granite countertops may be at the top of their list. When you realize that it is time for you to follow this wish and get at least the new cabinetry, you will want to find an excellent maker to build them for you.

If you have been wishing for custom cabinets for a while, then you may already know what you want. There are some things to think about before ordering. If the rest of your home is modern, then cabinetry that is primitive in style is not what would fit your home as it is right now. It will probably take some tweaking to make them fit.

Practicality is important because, maybe when you first started thinking about the cabinetry, you did not have any children. Now that you have kids, you need to think about what will show the least amount of dirt, what will be the safest, and what will be the most user-friendly for your family.

You should be able to tweak your primitive idea to fit a modern home. People often combine the modern and antique, so with the help of some magazines or design-savvy friends, you should be able to work things out with that. It just might take more work than you had planned.

For practicality purposes, you will have to consider whether you want glass in your cabinets and whether you want a primitive white color for them. It may be beautiful, but strawberry jam and other foods on little hands will quickly make them look more primitive than you would like. Going with a primitive, aged finish in a brown or a black with a colored undercoat to match the rest of the kitchen might be the perfect finish to hide little handprints. You might also consider additions like a pull-out wastebasket and built-in child locks.

For the higher custom cabinets, it might be okay to continue with your plan for glass fronts. Your kids will not be able to reach them for a while, and by the time they can, they should know better than to leave fingerprints.

Changing things up may seem like a major curveball to your plans. In the end, you will be better off with custom cabinets that match the style of your house and the needs of your family.
