How to Write an Item Rental Contract
- 1). Begin by writing the title of the contract on the top of the page. This title might read "Item Rental Agreement (Lease)."
- 2). In the first paragraphs, name both parties entering into the agreement, specifying which is the "Lessee" and which is the "Lessor," and include the date of the contract.
- 3). Start a new paragraph that explains the purpose of the contract and the condition the item should be in when the renter returns it at the of the rental period.
- 4). Write a new title on the next line that specifies "List of Items." Below this title, make a table with seven columns. Label the columns "item description" (what is the item), "location of item during rental" (where the items will be used), "rental period" (dates for the item rental), "item identification number" (any number identifying the item), "amount of security deposit," "item rental rate for entire contract," and "item rental rate payments" (whether monthly, quarterly, daily, etc.). Make a new row for each item under the rental agreement and fill in all corresponding column information.
- 5). Write a short sentence beneath the "Items" table to indicate all parties agree to adhere to the terms and conditions attached to the rental contact.
- 6). Create a signature line next to outline the lessor and lessee with space for each to sign.
- 7). Write the general terms and conditions of the item rental contact beginning on the next page. You will want to cover payment terms; what happens when a party breaches the contract; the handling of all security deposits, fees and taxes; who will maintain, repair and operate rental items; who may use the item during course of rental; disclaimers; insurance; and inspections if warranted.
- 8). Have your attorney look over the contract before finalizing it to make sure it is legally binding and to make any recommendations.
