The Magical Ring Levitation Trick

Here's a simple to set up and easy to perform trick that will have your audience thinking that you have powerful skills of telekinesis. This is an up close trick, meaning that it's best performed in front of a small crowd rather than on a large stage. It requires a bit of setup, but once you get the hang of it, you can easily do this while your out in various social situations.

This is what your audience will see. You pull out an ordinary pencil from your pocket. You ask to borrow a ring from any one of your friends, or you can use your own ring if you like.

You hold the pencil in your hand, with the sharp end pointing down. YOu place the ring over the pencil, and it slides down and rests on your thumb, where you're holding the pencil.

You focus your powerful psychic energy on the pencil, and slowly move it away from your body. You explain that you are projecting powerful energy, and as you move the pencil away from your body, the energy envelope emanating from your body is giving the ring powerful levitating qualities. As if by magic, the ring will mysteriously float up toward the top of pencil. Those watching will be convinced you have powerful psychic abilities to move matter with your mind.

Here's the trick:

You set this up by taking a piece of thread, and attaching it to the metal part of the eraser. You can use tape, or some pencils allow you to actually pull off the metal part. If you can pull it off, then wrap the thread around the eraser end of the pencil, and then shove the metal part back on holding the thread in place.

Then snake the thread under the band of your wristwatch, up your sleeve, and attach it somewhere on your body, or your clothing. I usually wrap it around a button or something similar.

Before you place the ring over the end of the pencil, make sure there is plenty of slack, so the ring will easily slide down the pencil. As you slowly pull the pencil away from your body, the thread will naturally tighten, and pull the ring up toward the end of the pencil.

Of course, it's important to face your audience, and use as much misdirection as you can. You can wave your other hand around, or make all kinds of weird faces while you focus your psychic energy.

This trick is a great ice breaker at a bar or party, especially if people have had a couple drinks. This is also a great trick to do for kids. Have fun.
