Chinchilla Dust Bath - What You Need to Know to Keep Your Pet Healthy

There are many things as the owner of a chinchilla that you must do to ensure that they remain in good health.
One item that is important to arrange for your pet is that you place a chinchilla dust bath into their cage that they can use on a regular basis.
With this type of bath they are able to help ensure that they remain free of germs, which otherwise could result in them becoming ill very quickly.
Having a regular dust bath not only stops germs from growing on them but helps to keep their fur looking wonderful.
This is because through a dust bath oil and dirt that collects on their fur can then be released.
If your chinchilla cannot have a regular dust bath then over time you will see some changes in the way they feel and look.
Not only will they begin to suffer from health problems if unable to keep clean but you may find that they begin to have behavioral problems as well.
When it is warm it is essential that you provide your pet with a daily chinchilla dust bath.
If you don't then their fur will become greasy and matted very quickly as a result of the heat.
Plus if you don't provide them with the bath this can lead to them suffering from heat stroke as they can become overheated quite quickly.
However, when the weather is cooler they won't need to bath on a daily basis instead allowing them to do so at least twice a week should keep them healthy and happy.
If you are someone who smokes then avoid doing so around your chinchilla as the tar that emanates from the cigarette can easily contaminate their fur.
The chinchillas will then notice a strange smell on them and will choose to lick their fur in order to remove it from them.
They will then swallow the tar which can prove extremely dangerous to them.
Should you need to it is important to give your chinchilla a wet bath to help remove the tar residue from their fur.
When it comes to helping your chinchilla smell fresh when having a dust bath, you can mix a small amount of baking soda into the dust.
Then just allow them to roll around in the bath as they would normally as this is a completely natural thing for them to do.
If you notice that when your pet has a dust bath they go to the toilet in it, make sure after they have rolled around in the dust that you wipe their fur with a cloth.
Plus if you notice that following a dust bath your pet's eyes are watering this may be a result of them being affected by the dust in fact they may be allergic to the kind of dust you are using.
So replace it with another kind to see if this problem disappears.
If it doesn't then you must arrange for your chinchilla to see a vet immediately as the problems they are having may be the cause of some other kind of illness.
