Yeast Infection - Natural Home Remedies Can Help
They tend to disturb the body's natural functions and often produce undesirable side effects.
And many of them simply do not provide effective relief.
The organic cures, on the other hand, are nature's method of providing a simple, quick and effective remedy.
Here are four simple methods for you to try.
The first three are good but quick fixes but the last is best for long-term relief.
Garlic is one home remedy, which is good for many ailments, especially yeast infection.
Simply apply a cut clove to the infected area for about two minutes to soothe the burning sensation.
Eating one or two raw garlic cloves a day also provides slow but effective relief.
Plain yogurt applied to the infected area provides temporary relief.
Yogurt has live benign bacteria, known as probiotics, which will fight off yeast infections.
For vaginal infections, inserting a tampon dipped in plain yogurt is also effective but this should not be left in the vagina for longer than a few minutes.
Apple cider vinegar is another fantastic home cure.
It is too strong to use alone so try combining it with a cup of water to dilute the acid.
It can be used as a douche or a bathing salve.
The acid in vinegar fights the infection and helps the vagina return to a normal level of acidity.
But the best and most effective cure in my experience is tea tree oil, sometimes known as melaleuca oil.
It is a clear yellowish essential oil with a fresh smell similar to camphor.
It comes from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia tree, native to the coast of New South Wales, Australia.
Tea tree oil must not be confused with tea oil, which comes from the seeds of the tea plant.
Tea tree oil has great beneficial medical properties, especially for dealing with yeast infection.
Although it is toxic when taken internally, when applied locally it is effective against bacteria, viruses and particularly fungal and yeast infections.
It was first used by native Australians as a potent antiseptic, but its properties were only recently subjected to scientific analysis.
Taken in its pure form, it has proved invaluable to many women in the struggle against yeast infection.
You will find it available at any health food store or your local pharmacy.
This is how to apply it.
Pour a few drops into a teaspoonful of carrier oil - grape seed or almond oil is good - then soak a tampon with the oil mixture before inserting it into the vagina.
Leave it in position for five hours or even overnight.
You will find that it provides soothing relief from the burning and itching symptoms of yeast infection and it is also effective in reducing vaginal discharge.
It should be used for three to five days or until one day after symptoms have ceased.
