Blackberry 8703E Vs. Windows Mobile
- There are a variety of mobile phones equipped with the Windows Mobile operating system across all the major carriers. The HTC Touch Pro2 for Sprint and T-Mobile offers users easy texting and a range of media capabilities. The HTC Dash 3G for T-Mobile and the Samsung Jack for AT&T are both well-rounded mobile devices with high-speed Internet capabilities and full QWERTY keyboards. The Samsung Omnia for Verizon and the LG Incite for AT&T are both touchscreen phones meant to compete directly with the BlackBerry Storm and Apple iPhone
- The Windows Mobile and BlackBerry operating systems both rank among the most popular on the market. Both operating systems allow users to run multiple applications all at once, often called multi-tasking, but BlackBerry has made this process easier by allowing the user to bring up a menu and scroll through open applications (Windows Mobile users must press the back button or return to the home screen). The BlackBerry OS continues to be the leading choice for business users, who appreciate easy compatibility with Microsoft Exchange e-mail servers.
- The BlackBerry 8703E allows users to tether their phone to their laptop or desktop computers. This means that 8703E users can connect their phone to a computer and run the Internet using their mobile phone's modem and mobile Internet. Considering that the BlackBerry 8703E is compatible with high-speed 3G mobile internet, this can be a huge advantage. Windows Mobile phones do not generally come equipped with this capability. Though it is possible to tether a Windows Mobile device, it requires some expertise and may be a violation of your service contract.
- The BlackBerry 8703E comes equipped with a relatively small 16 megabytes of RAM and 64 megabytes of ROM (permanent) memory. In comparison, most newer Windows Mobile equipped phones come with at least 128 megabytes of RAM and 256 megabytes of ROM memory, as well as a MicroSD expansion slot capable of supporting several gigabytes of extra memory, while the BlackBerry 8703E has no expansion slot. So if you are planning on putting a large picture or mp3 library on your phone, the 8703E is probably not your best choice.
- Most Windows Mobile devices have many of the same features as the BlackBerry 8703E. The 8703E uses a proprietary 2.5 millimeter headset jack, as do most of the Windows Mobile equipped devices (with the exception of the HTC Touch Pro2). Newer Windows Mobile devices will usually also come with Bluetooth 2.0, GPS capabilities, 3G mobile internet and picture messaging, as does the 8703E.
