Creating Community With Your Business Fan Page
It is against Facebook's terms of service to do marketing on your personal profile.
This does not mean that you can't discuss your business life on your personal profile, just that you shouldn't be pounding your marketing through there.
To roll out a new business blog, sometimes people will introduce it on their personal profile on Facebook.
This is not appropriate either.
Think about how people find your personal profile based on your name.
To differentiate yourself from all the "Realtors" in your market, establish a business fan page based on the type of Realtor you are.
It's important to have your page named around what your type of real estate.
When someone is searching for a Realtor in a particular region, a specialty of real estate or with special interests, they are going find what they are looking for.
When they find you, it's a much better relationship from the beginning.
On your Facebook personal profile, state that you're a Realtor and you place a link to your business fan page and your website on Facebook.
It's completely appropriate because it is part of who you are.
While you can refer to your profession subtly on your personal profile, it should not be the focus and you cannot post listings on Facebook.
Using "Real Estate" in your personal profile name is very much against Facebook's terms of service.
Profiles are about people, not businesses or entities.
With over 400 million profiles to manage, however, not all of the offenders are caught.
Sooner or later, those who are breaking rules could be dumped by Facebook, and possibly face consequences of not being allowed to set up a future business fan page.
Instead of breaking rules now and losing credibility, create a new business fan page as soon as possible.
