Man Boobs Exercises & the Spot Reduction Myth
Spot reduction is the theory that by working a specific muscle you can reduce the amount of fat surrounding that muscle.
It would be nice and convenient if this were actually true, but it isn't.
Crunches and sit ups won't get you six pack abs and building up your pecs won't help you get rid of your moobs.
Despite this the myth of spot reductions is is still perpetuated in countless chat rooms and forums and also, amazingly, in expensive ebooks that actually claim to be helping men to get rid of their breasts.
The sad truth is that this approach will only lead to disappointment, frustration and a bunch of wasted energy that could have been far better directed in other ways To burn chest fat through exercise you need to optimise your workouts in a way that will boost your metabolism as well as working muscles.
To do this I recommend dividing your workouts into two parts - half an hour of strength training followed by around 20 minutes of interval training.
For your strength training concentrate on bodyweight movements (squats, lunges, pulls, pushes etc) but feel free to incorporate dumbbells and exercise balls.
Stay off the machines as much as possible - resistance training that utilises the body's own natural size, shape and substance are far more effective.
By working a variety of muscle groups and joints simultaneously, they invigorate the body both metabolically and hormonally.
It's this "shake up" the will help shift your body chemistry into effective fat burning mode.
After strength training begin the second part of your workout, interval training.
For between 10 to 20 minutes, perform short periods of high intensity activity followed by similarly lengthy periods of recovery.
The most popular and effective form interval training is sprints, performed either outside or in the gym using the treadmill.
But you can also get great results using an exercise bike or through circuit training.
This kind of cardiovascular activity is far more effective for fat burning (and far less tedious!) than traditional cardio workouts which invariably involve half an hour or more of steady, low to medium intensity activity.
Perform interval training directly after the bodyweight exercises and your body's metabolism will be left in an intense, fat burning state for hours and hours after the completion of your workout.
Three 50 minute workouts like that described above a week will have a far greater effect on the size of your man boobs than ten thousand "diamond push ups".
So no matter what the man boob "gurus" tell you don't let the spot reduction myth lead you down the wrong path.
