Greg"s Grip Change - Backhand View

But is this a solution for other players suffering from sore legs? Perhaps not.
  • I'm willing to take the time to familiarize myself with the new grip and adjust to the different racket angles required. Not everybody is going to want to do this.
  • I'm also a combination bat player with a quick twiddle, so I can twirl my bat when I need to hit a backhand topspin, and the rest of the time the slightly awkward backhand grip won't affect my long pip usage much.

  • I'm also now playing an aggressive up to the table style, so I can stay close in and reduce the amount of movement I need, which also reduces the width of the stance and amount of knee bend I have to use.
So as you can see this particular grip change works out very well for me, but might not be as suitable for other players who aren't in my exact situation.

Conclusion

All in all, I'm absolutely thrilled with my progress so far. So unless some unexpected problem crops up in the near future, I'm going to stick with this grip going into my local competition season. My legs feel good, I'm adjusting to the required racket angles, and my forehand has never been better! I'll report in again in a month or two to let you know if I'm still progressing well with the new grip, or whether I've had to give up and try something else.

But I'm more positive about my table tennis future than I have been for a long time, so fingers crossed!
