REPORT: DeAndre Jordan wanted Clippers divorce due to Chris Paul
The rumored head-butting between Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan throughout the 2014-2015 season now has just a bit more validity backing it. According to a report from ESPN, it was constant complaining between the two NBA stars that led to Jordan leaving Los Angeles for the Dallas Mavericks this offseason.
"Jordan and Chris Paul had gotten into it more than once," ESPN's Kevin Arnovitz said. "That led to Jordan seriously contemplating what it might be like to play elsewhere in 2015-2016.
"He was tired of Paul's constant parking and petty gestures, like distributing high-fives to three other guys on the floor following a timeout but somehow freezing out Jordan."
Arnovitz went on to state that Jordan became overly frustrated with the fact the Clippers never looked at him as a player with over-the-top potential, but rather the player he was when he entered the league. What Jordan brought to the floor --his rebounding, defense-- was undervalued as the team seemed to view him as just another player.
As a free agent, Jordan met with the Clippers about a potential return, but the pitch by the team was underwhelming at best. Not to mention, Paul wasn't a member of the meeting to bring back the player that earned first-team, All-Defense honors this year.
Instead of returning to the team that drafted him in the second round of the 2008 NBA Draft, Jordan signed a five-year, $80 million max-contract with the Mavericks.
"We think he is going to be our best player for years to come," Mavs owner Mark Cuban told ESPN via text message.
"A franchise player for the rest of his career."
