5 Top Reasons Diets Don"t Work

For many people, losing weight and keeping it off is an ongoing struggle.
Traditional diets have taught us that to lose weight, we must count calories, fat grams, points or exchanges.
Some require that you eat pre-packaged foods or meal replacements.
There may be strict meal plans or complicated food combinations.
Some methods even eliminate entire food groups.
That is no way to live! Diets often tell you that there are "forbidden foods" or magical food combinations, and they often impose food rules that most people do not, cannot, or should not follow for very long.
Dieting is so unnatural and so unrealistic that it can never become a lifestyle that we can live with, let alone enjoy! Let's look at why diets are NOT the answer and how I work with people to create a happy, healthy life in a way that is flexible, fun and free of denial and discipline.
1) Diets take a "one size fits all" approach.
Traditional diets don't take into consideration your age, gender, ethnic background, work & family schedule, and lifestyle.
These and many other factors play into the whole picture and must be looked at in order for one to lose weight for good.
I look at everyone as an individual and help them make better eating and lifestyle choices based on who they are.
We're all different, both inside and out.
We think differently, act differently, have different lifestyles and different needs.
As the saying goes, "one person's food is another person's poison.
"Together we figure out what foods work for YOU.
2)Diets don't teach you how to deal with cravings.
What should you do if you're craving a particular food, like chocolate cake?Diets will tell you things like "reach for the apple instead of the chocolate cake.
"So you eat the apple, are not satisfied, which leads you to give in and finally just eat a piece of cake.
But then you feel GUILTY because you went off the "diet.
"You feel like a failure and next thing you know, you eat the ENTIRE chocolate cake.
I look at:What are the reasons for the cravings?Is it an emotional reason, or is it a physical craving?There are many causes for cravings: some are physiological or emotional, while others are your body physically telling you something.
I help you understand why you have cravings and how to tackle them realistically.
3)On diets we distrust and ignore internal signs of hunger.
Instead of listening to our internal signs, on diets we depend on diet plans, measured portions, and prescribed frequency for eating.
As a result, many people have lost their ability to eat in response to their physical needs.
Working with me you slowly learn how to listen to your body and give it what it's asking for.
Our bodies are amazing mechanisms and tell us what to do.
Diets teach you how to "turn off" your body's signals, and I help you to turn them back on.
4)Diets = Deprivation.
Diets often cut out certain foods, and even entire food groups!By doing so, we experience feelings of deprivation, then binge, and then finally terminate our "diet.
" This in turn leads to defeat, guilt, weight gain, low self-esteem, and before we know it we're on yet another diet.
Instead of making us feel better about ourselves, diets set us up for failure and weakens or even destroys our self-esteem.
I do not believe in deprivation.
If your weight loss and maintenance is to be a success, what you eat must be a pleasurable experience.
If you're not enjoying yourself, it's unlikely you'll continue your program.
It's that simple.

5)Diets control us - we are NOT in control.
People who try to live by diet lists and rules learn little or nothing about proper nutrition and how to enjoy their meals and healthy lifestyle.
No one can realistically live in the "diet mode" for the rest of their life, depriving themselves of the true pleasures of healthy eating.
Working with me you'll see that YOU are in control.

Diet's DON'T work.
