Smart Phone Use Creeps Up on You
One wonders if they could live without them for just 10 minutes.
Recently, I was working on a special assignment.
The man to whom I reported was constantly on his phone.
When a call came from him, I would immediately grab it because I knew it was one of the few chances during the day that we could communicate.
Driving down the street, the phone would ring; I would pull over to the side of the road so I could get his call.
Of course, now we are learning that is becoming a dangerous habit because often we end up partly in the way of traffic.
Before long, I realized that I was "one of them".
I didn't like the feeling.
I watched as a cousin looked down at her food as I discussed the rest of the day's plans with a good friend.
How did this behavior happen? One call at a time.
Same issue is true with emails.
In the past, I would be out and about all day and not even think about my emails.
Now the feeling "I need to check my emails" rears its head at any quiet moment that enters my day.
What is the big deal? How many interesting conversations are missed by standing in line or sitting next to someone at the airport? Discipline.
That is what it takes to make sure your smart phones does not prevent you from enjoying the wonderful world that surrounds you every day.
Now, I let a phone call go while driving down the road and turn it off when I am at lunch or in a meeting.
You know what; I saw a full rainbow the other day.
I am thinking I might have missed it if I had been reading my emails while waiting for a client to arrive.
Learning to use your smart phone in a disciplined way brings more rewards than you realize.
