Leaf Stitch Napkin Ring
Stitch a leaf stitch napkin ring using just 5 colors of tapestry wool on 10 to 12-count interlock needlepoint canvas or plastic canvas.
Colors used include 2 shades of tan, 2 shades of green, and a single trim color.
The pattern is simple enough that they work up very quickly - so you can make an entire set in about a day!
The pattern can also be worked in tent stitches, and I have given diagrams for both versions.
I stitched my sample in lighter colors, but the design can easily be changed to suit your Autumn or Holiday table.
When working the design in leaf stitch, the tan background areas are worked in tent stitches facing opposite directions first.
This is followed by the actual leaf worked in leaf stitch, which is a form of satin stitch.
Follow the chart shown to work the design in leaf stitch.
The motif should have the leaf repeated 6-8 times for a standard napkin ring, depending on your canvas size.
The design can also be worked in your favorite tent stitches following the full-color chart.
The motif should have the leaf repeated 6-8 times for a standard napkin ring, depending on your canvas size.
You can finish the napkin ring by stitching the short ends with a 1/2" seam allowance and turning the raw edges to the insides of the napkin ring and gluing a length of ribbon around the inside of the ring to rprevent snagging, or overcast the edges if using plastic canvas.
