What is the Warranty on a Lemon Law Buyback?
- Lemon Law buyback vehicles are often sold as used cars, and thus without a warranty. However, the manufacturer is required to mark the Certificate of Title and the Registration Certificate with "Lemon Law Buyback" and affix a decal saying the same on the vehicle prior to sale.
- The seller of a Lemon Law buyback vehicle must notify the buyer (in writing) of the year, make, model, and vehicle identification number, the fact that the vehicle is a Lemon Law buyback, the defects that made the vehicle a lemon in the first place, and the vehicle's repair history.
- Some manufacturers will attempt to fix the problem or replace the defective part, and then sell the vehicle without disclosing its Lemon Law buyback status. This is known as "lemon laundering" and is illegal.
