    How to Disable the Virus Scan if Norton AntiVirus 2009 in Taskbar

    • 1). Right-click the Norton AntiVirus icon in the taskbar on the bottom-right corner. Click "Settings."

    • 2). Click the icon next to "Microsoft Office Automatic Scan" under the words "Computer Scans." This will change the setting from on to off.

    • 3). Click the "OK" button. The AntiVirus scan will not be enabled.

    How to Disable the Virus Scan if Norton 2009 is Not in the Taskbar

    • 1). Click the "Start" button on the lower left-hand side of your screen and then click "All Programs" at the bottom.

    • 2). Locate and click the Norton AntiVirus folder in the alphabetical list. Click "Norton AntiVirus" again to boot the program.

    • 3). Click "Settings" and on the icon next to "Microsoft Office Automatic Scan" under the word "Computer Scans." This will turn the virus scan setting off.

    • 4). Click "OK."

    Alternative: Download and Run Norton Live Update

    • 1). Visit Symantec's Norton Live Update web page. This download will obtain the latest version of the Microsoft Office plug-in and make it more efficient to scan your Office documents for viruses.

    • 2). Start an Internet Explorer browser session to run the update by double-clicking on Internet Explorer from your desktop. (Internet Explorer is required for this update.)

    • 3). Click the orange button labeled "RUN IT NOW" under "Run LiveUpdate."

    • 4). Click "Yes" if a message pops up asking you if it's OK to download the update.
