The Isle of Purbeck is not really an island. Instead, it is an area of land in the county of Dorset bordered by the sea, to the south and east, and the calm waters of Poole Harbour on its northeastern extremity. Visitors who stay in one of Purbeck's hotels are close to ancient buildings, beaches and wildlife, as well as the ruined Corfe Castle that was demolished during the English Civil War in 1646. - Guests at Purbeck House Hotel are just a 300-yard walk from the sea. The hotel stands at the highest point on Swanage High Street. Its features a Scottish baronial-style architecture, complete with turrets, that was fashionable when it was built in 1875. Guests enjoy views of the sea and Purbeck Hills from some rooms. All rooms offer color television and tea and coffee-making facilities. The hotel is close to Swanage Railway, a preserved steam railway that runs six miles to Norden. The hotel stages weddings for parties of up to 130 people. Visitors can stroll in the hotel's garden, dine in the restaurant and enjoy drinks in the bar.
