    Sidestepping

    • Sidestepping is a four-count dance move. The key to good dance step exercising is to keep it simple, and sidestepping is very easy to learn and perform. You can use sidestepping in various ways. Start your sidestep with a bounce to the music for a few moments. Take a sidestep to the left with your left foot. Bring the right foot beside it. Repeat the sidestep using the right foot to step right and bring your left foot beside it. For an extra touch of fun add a spin at the end of the left-step, right-step combination. Build up your cardio by swinging your arms when you do your sidesteps. When you go left, swing your arms left. When you swing right, swing your arms right. When spinning, bring your arms in tight, up to your chest. Sidestepping moves are good for any speed or genre of music.

    Box Step

    • The box step is an eight-count dance move. This dance step is used in ballroom dancing with partners but is great for dancing by yourself too. Use the box step to get your heart moving. Start by standing with your feet together. Take a step forward first with your right foot and then your left. Make a box by stepping back on your left, then right feet. Step right and put both feet together. The box step, when done correctly, should bring you back to your original spot. Music for the box step can be any of your favorite dance songs, and go ahead and give some tunes with a Latin sound a try. This dance exercise looks great when performed to a song with lots of good rhythm.

    Grapevine

    • Line dancers love doing the grapevine. It's a few basic moves done in a particular combination. First you step to the side then bring your feet together. Then place your right foot behind you and rock back and forth. Then bring your left back, putting your feet together. Turn your body 90 degrees and repeat.
