Why Not Have Oak?

103 1
This solid, well-crafted type of furniture has long been a favourite of both interior designers and the everyday homeowner in the UK, for many reasons; a quality piece of oak furniture can last for decades, as well as remaining in style and reliably turned out.
In the past, such pieces as oak cabinets, wardrobes and tables were thought of as something only the more well-off members of society could afford, due mainly to the sheer craftsmanship that went into each object and the high quality of the construction.
However, in recent decades, oak has moved into a more modern, affordable arena, and entire living or dining room sets can be purchased for just a fraction of the price they once were.
Although they have undoubtedly lost the personal touch and don't require the skill it took to create a beautiful chair or cupboard, making the furniture more main stream and affordable to the masses allows everyone to admire the quality of solid oak - and to understand why it remains popular year upon year.
It's difficult to go wrong with a piece of oak furniture- antique or modern - because solid oak is just that, there's no need to worry that you'll be receiving a flimsy, cheap piece of woodwork, (or to have to consider a back-up plan because it might fall apart) oak is the best quality you can get for use as storage and even better for a table top - which sees a lot of wear and tear.
Virtually every good furniture store stocks some type of oak furniture, and although prices have made it easier for the less affluent to afford, they're not dirt cheap by any means - but you get what you pay for, and tasteful piece of oak furniture can add style to any room.
Designs don't stop at tables and chairs though, oak furniture manufacturers have had to move with the times just like everyone else, and now you can find almost every kind of practical furnishings you can think of.
Television and DVD cabinets can look tacky and cheap, but a solid oak construction allows for functional use as well as looking great.
Desks, nests of tables, shelves, kitchen cupboards, telephone consoles, the list goes on...
Quality beds made from oak have always been a by-word for luxury and stability, and one can be obtained for upwards of around two hundred pounds - rising into the thousands for a high-end piece.
