Know About Audio Transcription Service Providers
Ideally, a trained transcriptionist will listen to audio tapes that need converting, and then document them in a digital document which could be a word document or similar document format.
The source of the audio could be audio files or it could be video files, it could be a combination of these two.
The destination could be some standard word document or some specific format as requested by the client.
Transcription Service Provider While the basic purpose of transcription is the same across clients, each client may lay down specific rules that are to be followed while the audio data is being transcripted.
A service provider would of course be willing to do this because they understand that no two clients are alike and hence would have trained professionals who are all ready to comply to these, sometimes stringent and sometimes simple, requirements.
For instance, some clients may wish for the service provider to alter the output so as to reflect corrections in the grammar.
However, it is important that the grammar is not implemented in such a way so that the originally intended meaning of the spoken sentence is altered.
Another request that some clients place on their data being processed is for some words to be omitted.
This could be words like 'eh' or 'um' which is quite common in spoken language but would look odd in a written document.
Types of Transcription Across service providers, there are primarily three different kinds of audio transcription services that one could expect.
The first one is the verbatim way of processing data, and following that pattern, the second one is of course non verbatim method.
Not exactly related to these two methods are the intelligent interpretation transcription services.
You could make an informed guess based on the title what exactly verbatim and non-verbatim transcription will result in.
If the output document is supposed to contain every sound, literally, then it would be verbatim.
So, we are talking about a transcriptionist who will be typing fillers like 'you know', 'well', 'what', 'um' and so on.
Not only fillers, even sounds like coughing and clearing of the throat also make their way into the output document.
Effectively, any and every sound made by the speaker and that is recorded, will show up in the output document is some form or another.
In contrast, the non-verbatim transcription will not contain these fillers.
The conversation will be similar to conversation found in novels or stories where only conversations are documented, with no room whatsoever for fillers.
Intelligent Method Of Transcription The intelligent method of audio typing relies on the skill of the transcriptionist to take a call as to whether a filler sound should be included in the output document.
Let us say that the speaker is clearing his throat, not to actually clear his throat, but rather emphasize a point he is trying to make.
Another similar situation could be if the speaker is using a word repeatedly, not out of fault or mistake, but because it is relevant to the conversation that is in transit.
In such cases, the transcription will take a call and decide to include these fillers because they truly represent the importance of being present in a given sentence.
Obviously, each of the transcription services has its place in different scenarios.
Almost every company has to rely on transcription services for documentation purposes which may even be mandatory by law.
