- Install a cat flap into plastic doors by following the instructions accompanying the cat flap kit. Most cat flap kits contain a separate set of instructions for plastic.
If there are no special instructions for plastic door installation on the packaging material, you will need to alter the instructions for your plastic door. Remove the bottom panel of your plastic door if your door is built in panels. Or, remove the entire plastic door if possible so you can saw and fit on an even surface. If it is not possible to remove the door, close it and lock it so it does not move during installation.
Use a jigsaw to cut a hole int the plastic door, in the same manner you would a wooden door. Use a very fine or specialized jigsaw piece for plastic. With an electric sander, sand down the plastic edges as they may be rough after cutting with a jigsaw. Sand down the sides of the cat flap area, and use a smaller saw to get rid of any plastic that remains.
Use the screws that came with the cat flap door, or the type that listed in the instructions, on the plastic door. But substitute washers meant for plastic, instead of wood, to secure the door during installation.
