- 1). Install the processor temperature monitor application included on your motherboard's driver disc. Download and install a monitoring application online if you do not have access to the driver disc. Some monitoring applications will display the maximum temperature along with the current temperature.
- 2). Check your processor type, labeled on the sticker on the front or palm rest of a new computer or by entering your computer's main BIOS screen. Watch the prompts as they appear while your computer starts up. Press the key required to enter the BIOS or system settings, typically F1, F2, F8, F10 or the delete key, depending on the brand and model of computer.
- 3). Locate your processor in the chart near the top of the page in the first link in the "References" section, then find the maximum temperature in Celsius to the right of the processor name. This is the maximum temperature your computer can operate at.
