This capelet works up fairly fast in treble stitches. The drawstring top makes it possible for each size to fit a range of sizes, from extra-small through plus sizes. There are five starting chains to choose from.

Abbreviations: ch = chain, chs = chains, ea = each, sc = single crochet, sp = space, st = stitch, tr = treble

Materials: For size x-small in the length shown in the example, about 7 oz. worsted weight yarn with US size H hook.

Add about an additional 3 oz. of yarn for each larger size.

Measurements: Top to Row 14 is 13 inches. The top edge measures about 27 inches across for the size extra-small, with the starting chain of 88 chains.

Gauge: 7 sc = 2 inches, 2 tr rows = 2 inches

Starting chains given are for sizes x-small, small, medium, large, x-large. Medium is about a size Misses 12-14. Each size could fit a range of sizes. Top row can be worn flat for the neckline to form more of a v-neck look or the drawstring at the top can be used to draw the cape tighter around the shoulders.

Starting Chain Sizes: x-sm (sm, med, lg, x-lg)
Starting Chains: chain 88 (104, 120, 136, 152)

Row 1: Working in one loop of ea starting chain (remaining loops will be used when crocheting the outside edging): sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in ea chain across.

Row 2: ch 4 (counts as first tr), tr in ea of next 3 sc, * skip next 3 sc, 3 tr in next sc **, repeat the directions between * and ** as many times as needed to go across the row, until 7 sc remain, then skip next 3 sc, tr in ea of next 4 sc.

Row 3: ch 4 (counts as first tr), tr in ea of next 3 tr, ch 1, skip next tr, 3 tr in next tr, * ch 1, skip next 2 tr, 3 tr in next tr **, repeat the directions between * and ** as many times as needed to go across the row, until 5 tr remain, then ch 1, skip next tr, tr in ea of next 4 tr.
