If you're expecting to enter a nursing home or assisted living facility in the future, longterm insurance would make an excellent choice. In the same vein, if you have a friend or family member who will be doing that sometime soon, you should speak to them about their plans for the future and their financial situation.

Other conditions can also lend themselves to longterm assisted living or home care. Whether because of age or a pre-existing condition, longterm insurance can serve as a backup plan at the very least, and at the most it could end up saving the life of you or someone you know.

Now, longterm insurance isn't always the best option, either. If you have the wealth or savings to securely care for yourself well into retirement, you may not need the extra financial assistance you would get through longterm insurance plans.
