Sampler Blanket Instructions

These instructions cover how to knit a 36-inch square baby blanket using each block pictured once.

Materials

• two skeins each of three colors of Plymouth Encore, or about 350 yards each of three colors of your favorite medium weight yarn
• one pair size 8 US knitting needles
• scissors and yarn needle
• materials for blocking

Size

Each block is 12 inches square. Use one block for each of your squares, one of each block or a combination to make a blanket or afghan the size of your choice. The one pictured is 36 inches square.

General Instructions

Choose three blocks to make in each of the three different colors you have chosen.

Knit each one according to the instructions that follow. Block the blocks to ensure that all are a uniform 12 inches square.

When all the squares have been completed and blocked, decide how you would like to arrange the blocks. I started with the alphabet block in the center and worked from there, putting one square of each color in each row.

You can stitch the blocks together using any method you like; I used a simple straight stitch.

If desired, add a knit or crocheted border. You'll need another skein of yarn in the color of your choice for this.
