Consider the Benefits of Aluminium Window Frames
Cost Effective
Aluminium frames are much less expensive than timber styles. Back when double glazed windows were being introduced these were the only two options available and homeowners obviously gravitated to the cheaper frame. Even today, timber is much more expensive than aluminium, but uPVC has them both beat. The vinyl option will also provide excellent levels of insulation.
Aluminium window frames fall somewhere in the middle for price - above vinyl, but below wood. They are reasonably priced and will last for years, allowing you to enjoy the return on your investment for decades.
Strength
One of the most beneficial characteristics of aluminium is the strength. Although uPVC is made with air chambers for maximum efficiency and to beef up the frame, it can't begin to compare with the strength of aluminium.
This metal will not warp like wood nor be easily cut through or damaged like uPVC. It lasts for years without the need for repainting (mainly due to powder coated finishes) and has a natural resistance to corrosion, making it an ideal choice for exterior applications.
Security
Not many homeowners realize this, but aluminium frames offer the highest level of security when it comes to windows. A properly manufactured aluminium window is tightly fit and extremely difficult to pop out, as can be done with timber frames. The strength of the material also means that it can't be warped, bent or chipped like both wood and vinyl can.
When security is an issue, such as for first floor windows, on large windows and in cases where a higher level of safety is desired, aluminium becomes the product of choice. Industrial buildings still specify this material in their construction drawings and often for this reason, along with the low maintenance factor and the midrange price tag.
You will have many options when replacing the windows on your home. Whether to opt for aluminium window frames, as opposed to timber or uPVC, will be only one of them. Think about the benefits, weigh the options and make a better informed decision.
