Ferret FAQ
1.
I have children at home.
Are ferrets safe with my children? It depends on the situation.
If you have babies and toddlers at home, then perhaps it may not be the right choice to get a ferret.
Ferrets have the tendency to nip people in play and there may be an instance that your pet can actually hurt your baby if left unsupervised.
However, if you have young children at home who can already be taught how to play with your ferrets properly, then the risk may be on the side of your pet.
Young children may be too harsh at play so you do not really know if they are already hurting your pet.
In any case, you should never leave your ferret and your children unsupervised.
2.
Is one ferret enough or should I get another one? Ferrets are absolutely adorable and definitely energetic even at home.
They are naturally capable of human interaction which means that even if you only have one ferret at home, it will totally work for you.
However, ferrets tend to be more lively and more playful at the presence of other ferrets so having another one is definitely a good decision.
The only thing you have to remember is having more than one ferret requires you to double your effort.
If you are ready for such, then you know what to do.
3.
What makeshift toy can I provide for my ferret? Ferrets love to go to holes and tunnels so perhaps it is a great choice for you if you make them makeshift tunnels or obstacles.
They can go in these tunnels and exit the other way.
You can use ordinary household equipment to do these obstacles and you can even find your materials at your local hardware store.
Moreover, since you provide them with this type of toy, there will be lesser chances for them to explore more holes in your home since they already have one.
4.
Can we travel with our ferret? Ferrets totally love to explore new places and car trips definitely do not bother them.
You can even provide them with a shoulder bag they can get into to feel comfortable during the trip.
Also, you can provide litter plans and water bottles for them during the trip.
5.
How often should I bath my ferret? Oftentimes, people do not entirely realize that frequent bathing of their ferret actually does damage to their skin and therefore result to an increased production of oil.
When this happens, your ferret may tend to smell more.
It is important to bath your ferret only twice in a month.
Frequent washing can make their skin drier which in turn makes them produce more skin oil than the usual.
In addition to lesser bathing, you can use specialized shampoo for ferrets to make sure that it is the best possible solution for your ferret.
If your ferret may still smell, then perhaps you should also keep in mind the cleanliness of his cage and his litter boxes.
