Your Cake Decorating Business - Packaging and Delivery
The first thing you want to do is be sure you create that beautiful cake on a sturdy base.
Three or more layers of heavy cardboard should be adequate for most applications.
However, pay close attention to heavy base tiers and use 1/2" plywood or fiberboard.
Pillar cakes are best transported unassembled.
Remove the toppers, candles and ornaments before delivery.
Stacked cakes should be moved assembled unless there are a large amount of tiers, in which case it's best to transport the pieces separately.
Be sure to have your tools and icings to finish the decorating job and for any last minute touch ups! It's best to box your cakes before delivery.
Use Baker's Boxes if possible.
There are three very important reasons for doing this: 1.
Protect your tiers from damage 2.
Keep the cake clean - free from dirt, dust or bugs 3.
Makes transporting the cake easier Put the cake on a non-stick mat in the back of your vehicle.
Avoid setting it on the back seat as you want the cake to remain as level as possible during the trip.
At the destination ask for a cart to move the cakes from the vehicle to the reception area.
This is easier and safer than carrying by hand.
The best way to remove the cake from the box is to cut open the side and slide the cake out.
This is where you need to have your repair kit at the ready for touch ups and emergency repairs.
Label each box as you prepare the cake for delivery so you aren't hunting for components at the last minute.
These are the most basic steps to ensure your cake arrives at the destination in the same shape as it left your kitchen.
