- 1). Place the photo you are using on your scanner bed. Choose the largest version you have for highest quality. Close the top.
- 2). Launch your scanner software. Set the scanning resolution to at least 600 DPI. Use the selection tool to narrow the scan to the photo's borders. Then click "Scan." Save the image as a .TIFF file.
- 3). If you do not already have an image editing program, go to GIMP.org and download the free GIMP program. Install it to your computer.
- 4). Select "File" and click "New." In the dialog box, set the size in inches (either 23 by 35 or 16 by 20). Set the resolution to 200 pixels.
- 5). Select "File" and click "Open." In the dialog box, navigate to the photo you scanned and open it.
- 6). Select "Image" and click "Scale image." Increase the size by 10 percent. Click "OK." Repeat this step until the image is larger in both directions than the image you opened in step 4.
- 7). Select "Edit" and click "Copy." Then go to the other document, select "Edit" and click "Paste." Save to your computer.
- 8). Choose a printer to create your poster. You can sign up for a free account on Cafepress.com. Go to your "Account page" and select "Add product." In the product wizard, select the file you created as the product. Click on the "Browse" button to upload your poster image. You can order as many copies as you like.
