"Someday I Want to Buy a Motor Home and Hit the Open Road" He Dreamed

Not long ago, I was sitting in Starbucks talking about traveling with a local here, he'd lived in some 8-different states before retiring here, mostly due to his job, and previously being in the military.
He thought he'd like someday to travel all over the nation.
Interestingly enough, I've been to every city in the USA, at least all the cities over 10,000 people that is, so we got to talking about traveling by motor home.
And what one needed to know about buying a motor home.
You see, motor homes often have significant depreciation once you drive them off the lot, almost immediately you can be looking at a unit worth 25-35% less than you paid for it.
This is a significant financial hit, but there is a simple solution, find a used motor home, one which has the break-in miles on it - let's say 20,000 to 30,000 miles.
Okay so, let's discuss this a minute, namely what sorts of things should you look for in a used motor home - below are some tips; 1.
Look for damage history, as this is critical.
If the frame is bent, your motor home will never run right, it will eat tires, and cause doors not to shut right - plus it could leak water.
You don't need a mold situation in your motor coach.
2.
Make sure the appliances work, all of them, if some don't you need to ask for a discount to afford to replace them.
Some motor coach refrigerators for instance cost $2500 plus - ouch! 3.
Check the tires, motor home tires are quite expensive.
4.
Make sure the generator has been properly maintained, starts up on the first go, and powers up all the appliances without tripping the circuit breakers.
Electrical issues are critical, and motor coach fires are the number one cause for insurance claims on these types of vehicles.
5.
Have the motor inspected by a qualified mechanic - it's even worthwhile to have them come to inspect it on the seller's property.
6.
Make sure to price insurance in advance, you may be pleasantly surprised if you have a decent driving record, I was.
7.
Inspect the paint, inside paneling, and be sure there are not any bad odors - rats love to live in parked or stored motor homes.
8.
Make doubly sure the air-conditioner works, and the heater works, beware of weird smells or disruptions during usage.
9.
Be sure to look in the eyes of seller, ask them; "is this a reliable motor home, have you had any problems with it?" If you do these things you will prevent future problems, remember buying such a vehicle is a real cost, and can be a big expense if not done properly.
Please consider all this.
