How to Get Rid of Excessive Lint on Towels
- 1). Wash and dry the new towels to loosen them up and remove extra lint. Egyptian cotton and other high-quality towels will need several wash and dry cycles to lessen the excessive lint -- so you may want to wash them on their own to minimize spreading the lint to other materials.
- 2). Add dryer sheets to the drying cycles to help loosen the static bond that holds the lint to the towel. Be sure to empty the lint traps after running towels through the dryer.
- 3). Hang towels outside to dry to allow the wind to blow excess lint off of the towels.
- 4). Shake the towels to remove any lint that has loosened up.
- 1). Wrap masking tape around your hand and press it onto the towels making sure that the sticky side is facing outwards. Old towels are linting due to the fibers breaking down and wearing off, so you do not need to wash and dry them repeatedly; only when they need to be cleaned.
- 2). Place a large piece of nylon netting into the dryer during the dry cycle when you are cleaning the towels. The netting creates a friction when it tumbles against the towels, causing the lint to fall from the towels.
- 3). Clean the lint filter in the dryer after every use. If the filter is clogged, it is more difficult to catch the lint from the towels.
