Bunk Moreland - HBO"s The Wire

103 21
Character's Role: A bright detective who knows how the game works and understands the chain of command in the BPD.
Bunk is Jimmy McNulty's partner, but he doesn't have McNulty's same disdain for authority (or at least he does not act upon it).
Over the course of the series Bunk manages to do some of the best police work of almost any homicide detective in Baltimore's Police Department (perhaps matched only by Lester Friedman).
Like McNulty, Moreland also has various indiscretions with women and trouble with alcoholism, but these appear minor in comparison with the likes of his partner.
Moreland is married and has 3 children (who he classically pretends are the orphaned young children of a murdered witness while trying to coerce a confession out of D'Angelo Barksdale).
Played By: Wendell Pierce, who is also starring in the brand new HBO series from David Simon, Treme.
What Seasons: In seasons 1 - 5.
Best Moment: Bunk reminiscing with and lambasting of Omar during the third season.
My Favorite Quote: "Makes me sick, motherf*, how far we done fell.
" - This is the tale end of a quote in which Bunk proclaims that Omar and the entire game just disgust him.
Omar remarks that Toesha (one of Omar's crew) was not a victim since she was in the game; Bunk says that this is totally absurd and that there used to be a time when every single dead body mattered.
Best Foil / Rival: James "Jimmy" McNulty.
Bunk is the more moral McNulty (emphasis on "more") and he is the McNulty who recognizes the chain of command.
Perhaps not as razor-sharp as McNulty, Bunk has a perseverance (as revealed by the DNA analysis which he follows from season four into five) which allows him to to put away one of the coldest killers in The Wire.
