How to Make Ears for a Costume

104 1
    • 1). Look at a picture of the animal's ears that you need for the costume. Each type of animal has a different style of ear. While each ear is different, they generally have a similar construction, which you can easily reproduce.

    • 2). Draw the outline of the ear onto a piece of paper. Add about one to two inches of fabric at the bottom of the ear to wrap around the headband. Cut out the outline to use as a pattern for the ears.

    • 3). Pin the outline to the felt or faux fur, depending on the fabric that you have chosen, and cut out two outlines. Cut out an inner ear from a different color of felt, usually pink, for the inside of the ear.

    • 4). Glue the inner ear to the outer ear. If you want the ear to have stiffness and stick straight up, place one or two pipe cleaners between the layers to hold the ears up. Cut the pipe cleaners short enough so that they do not stick into the part of the ear that you will wrap around the headband.

    • 5). Wrap the bottom of the ear around the headband. Glue the ears into place. Allow the glue to dry for about 10 minutes. Adjust the ears once the glue dries to make them look more natural.
