Hypnosis is a scientific method that can be executed by a professional therapist in order to help people overcome issues that they do not wish to deal with anymore. Hypnosis has been instrumental in weight loss, stress reduction, relieving depression, breaking addictions and many other issues. In the past hypnosis was viewed as a trick to make people do and say things they normally would not and not remember what they did or said. But today quit smoking hypnosis is viewed more as a developmental scientific aid to stop the habit.

Those that are hypnotized become relaxed but that does not mean they have fallen asleep. That is far from the truth. The subject is very centered on a goal they desire to achieve or a problem they wish to defeat. The body and the mind is in a state of relaxation yet the subconscious mind is fully functioning and it is willing and ready to take any ideas. The subconscious is unable to distinguish anything as real or unreal because the conscious does that. Usually a suggestion comes in to the conscious mind and it is tagged as being fantasy or reality before it ever gets to the subconscious level. If a proposal by passes the conscious mind and goes directly to the subconscious mind you can make fantasy a reality. Therefore suggesting that you are a non smoker can actually make your subconscious believe that you do not smoke.

In stop smoking hypnosis the subconscious is reprogrammed in order to modify behavior. When using hypnosis a hypnotherapist that has been certified should be used. The smoker may need more than one session with them or one session might do the trick. It is also advisable to buy a stop smoking DVD or CD where you can listen to it whenever you can to reinforce what you learn from they hypnotherapist.

Addictive behaviors have to deal with relapse when trying to stop and the reason for this is that the subconscious sends out signals to crave the substance you are trying to not put in your body anymore. The subconscious has to be tricked into thinking that you are not a smoker. A successful therapist can understand what links you to smoking. Maybe you like to have a cigarette after dinner or you want to have one while driving. They need to give the subconscious other things to do after dinner or while driving to make it forget it wants to smoke. Often times, healthier habits will be introduced to take the place of smoking. If that particular link is severed smoking will no longer be a big problem.

A therapist will stress positive thinking and encourage family members and others to keep up the positive thinking. It is not unusual for the smoker to be told that smoking is easy to kick. Sometimes the suggestion is given that smoking leaves a terrible taste in the mouth and that suggestion works.

Not everyone can be hypnotized into not smoking however it is suggested that there is a good percentage of people that try hypnotism that do stop smoking. In most cases these people do not relapse because they no longer have the craving. If you want to stop smoking give hypnotism a try. It cannot hurt.
