Algonquin Provincial Park is a popular destination for cross-country skiers of all skill levels.
With three trail networks specifically designed for Nordic skiing, it's no wonder why thousands of visitors descend on Canada's oldest park to participate in this popular winter workout.
Algonquin's three trail networks are as follows: - Fen Lake Ski Trail - Leaf Lake Ski Trail - Minnesing Wilderness Ski Trail Fen Lake and Leaf Lake are packed and groomed on a regular basis, whereas Minnesing is not.
The Fen Lake Ski Trail can be found at the West Gate of the park.
According to Algonquin's website, much of this trail travels through the hardwood forest typical of the park's west side.

One of the greatest aspects of cross-country skiing in Algonquin Park is that the trails are not shared with loud snowmobiles.

From Birch strands to Beech trees to the occasional beaver pond, there is certainly no shortage of natural delights along these networks.
There are also many White-Tailed Deer in the area and visitors will see their tracks all over the place.
If you're lucky, you may also spot a wolf pack in your midst.
But of course there's no need to be scared.
Admire these beautiful creatures from afar and they will let you be on your merry way! Some cross-country skiers opt for a more intimate experience - preferring to travel in packs of two or three.
But for those looking to make new friends and perhaps ski with other families, Algonquin's Wildlife Ski Tour is an excellent option.
This March, join 'The Friends of Algonquin Park' along with the park's wildlife centre as they host a ski event along the Leaf Ski Trail network.
Visitors get a guided tour of the park's winter wildlife while taking in the excitement of group skiing.
