Uses for Alfalfa Seeds

104 1
    • Alfalfa seed is one of the most important legumes, producing most of the hay and feed used by farmers. Alfalfa's scientific name is Medicago sativa, and it is also commonly called lucerne. The seeds can grow in diverse climates although they are most successful in deep soil with efficient drainage. Alfalfa is rich in vitamins B, C, D, E, and K and contains nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and potassium.

    Alfalfa Sprouting

    • The most common use for alfalfa seeds is sprouting. Alfalfa seeds are easy to germinate, and they produce sprouts that are both healthy and tasty.

    Arthritis Tea

    • Add a teaspoon of alfalfa seeds to one cup of boiling water and allow it to steep for a minute or two. Drink 3-4 cups daily for two weeks. This tea makes an excellent remedy for inflammation, such as that caused by arthritis.

    Digestion Stimulant

    • Alfalfa seeds or sprouts stimulate the digestive system to excrete excess juices, which encourages healthy digestion. Drink alfalfa seed tea after a meal to boost the digestive process.

    Blood Detox

    • Drinking alfalfa seed tea (or eating whole alfalfa seeds) may help the body to get rid of excess cholesterol, which encourages good cardiovascular functioning.
