Steal The Look: A Beautiful Outdoor Oasis

Angela Belt is a freelance stylist, designer and writer in the New York Area. Her work has been featured in The Washington Post, Rue Magazine, Redbook and EBONY. She was the stylist for the interior design book, REMIX: Decorating with Culture, Objects and Soul.

As a stylist, I spend a lot of time working with people's inspiration. So often I talk with a client, and what they have is less a concrete idea of what they want a space to look like and more a sense of how they want it to feel; a sense drawn, more often than not, from a variety of different images they've seen.

They pull up a photo from Pinterest or a website that they love, and what they are essentially asking for is my help and advice on how to re-create that look. Sometimes they want something slightly different and personalized. Other times they want exactly what they see on the page. In those situations, the biggest problem is usually tracking down the individual products that make up the space. So to make things a little easier, I decided to share one of my favorite outdoor spaces along with a breakdown of the pieces that make it work.

This outdoor area was styled by celebrity stylist Emily Henderson for a Texas baby shower. For this particular room setting Emily collaborated with the west coast-based Yeah! Rentals furniture company to create this magical look. So, now that I've seen it, of course I want to live in this gorgeous outdoor setting. So I decided to do a little online scavenger hunting to figure out how we can all bring this wonderful look to our own homes.

The Sofa

This sofa is designed by the Joybird Furniture Company. Like everything from Joybird this piece is custom made, and so size, finishes and cushion type can all be designed to your specifications. This Percy sofa is a must have. You are going to need to get this for your home ASAP so you can start entertaining. ?

For those of you who, like me, could be described as furniture...enthusiastic, you can also snag the licensed design version of this mid-century sofa from Modernica.

It is called the Case Study V-Leg Daybed and, similar to the Joybird sofa, can be configured as a sectional with an end table attached. With this piece, you have a wood or metal base option, plus an array of upholstery selections to choose from. ?

Cocktail Table & Accent Table

If you're only going to take a few things from this look, these two tables might just be the ideal pieces to steal. One thing that really attracted me to this photo was the mix of the mid-century sofa with the live edge cocktail table which is a bit more rustic and industrial in style. You can get this accent table from FIFTYMOD at ETSY. It comes in a range of colored hairpin legs, and custom size tops, each piece is hand made for only $280!!!!?

This metal end tray table by Dar is a good alternative to the end table in the photo. This accent table comes with a tray, a small footprint at 21” diameter, and can be easily stored when you remove the tray top, and collapse the base. If the live edge look is what you're after, another show stopping cocktail table that you should consider is the Chilton Cocktail Table at Room & Board. This table comes in cherry and wood finishes, and you can choose between a wood or a steel leg finish. This table is much larger in size in scale at 60” wide and 32-40” deep, so if you want to entertain with a large group this would be the ideal piece for your space.?

Brown Pouf & White Pouf

?You can never go wrong with a moroccan pouf in a space, and I love that in this room setting there are two and they look great matched together. Poufs and ottomans are great for additional seating, especially when you are entertaining and unplanned additional guests show up. You can find this brown Moroccan leather pouf at Wayfair, and the white pouf at Land of Nod.

Another alternative to these round Moroccan poufs is the Vintage Moroccan Berber poufs at ETSY.

These colorful cushions come in array of shades and fabrics, and are great to mix and match as floor cushions in a space. In this scenario you can own 5-6 of these cushions and layer them throughout the room or start with a few and pull out more as additional guests arrive.

Wire Chair

?Every Farmhouse Lounge Chair from furniture company, Bend, is made by winding intricate patterns of wire formed through a combination of hand-shaping and spot welding that the company refers to as bending. The result is an indoor/outdoor chair that adds the perfect punch of color to your space. ??

Bent wire furniture is really on-trend right now. If the The Farmhouse Lounge chair isn't in the budget, another chair to consider is The Hot Mesh Chair from BluDot.

This piece is an undeniable show stopper at only $129. An assortment of colors makes it easy to find a version of this chair that matches your particular outdoor vision.

This vintage turkish rug is from Studio Matsalla in Carlsbad, California. I was hunting for the perfect turkish rug to the one in this photo, and I end up discovering this shop through my Instagram feed. This rug is one of many options that could work as a great replica for the one featured in this photo.

Another Turkish rug to consider that is another great alternative to the space is the Herat Oriental Afghan Hand-knotted Tribal Vegetable Dye Kazak Salmon/ Ivory Wool Rug from Overstock.com.

This rug is 100% vegetable dye based, and was handmade by Afghani weavers. The soft pink and navy color palette of this rug will be a great base to anchor your space.

?Pillows and textiles are a must for any space to take it from good to great. In this photo there is a nice eclectic mix of pillows, and I especially like the playful element added by the pillow with the embossed camel. The Modern Midas Touch pillow and this striped pillow, both from ETSY are excellent options to consider taking home today to get this look, as is this geometric woven pillow from One Kings Lane and the Teal Camel Silhouette Pillow from Zazzle.
