104 1
    • 1). Place a water-resistant catch basin where you want your waterfall set up. Choose a basin made of any material. The size depends on the size waterfall you want. Choose a basin large enough to keep a pump submerged in the water. For small countertop waterfall, use a ceramic bowl. For a medium-sized waterfall, use a large plastic storage bin. For a larger fountain, purchase a large reservoir, such as a child's swimming pool.

    • 2). Fill the basin with rocks and stones. Use rocks from around your home or purchase some from your local garden supply or home improvement store. Mound the stones up to achieve a structure for the water to fall down. Play around the positioning of the rocks until you achieve a structure you are happy with. The exact structure is up to you. Secure the rocks to one another using plumber's caulk. Attach rocks to the outside of the basin if you want the basin's material covered. Use plumber's caulk to secure them. Allow the caulk to dry overnight.

    • 3). Place a water pump into the basin. Insert the suction end into the base of the basin. Place the flow side of the pump at the top of the mound of rocks. For smaller waterfalls, use a fish tank pump. For larger waterfalls, purchase a waterfall pump kit.

    • 4). Fill the basin with water until the water covers the pump. Turn the pump on to start the waterfall's flow.
