How to Make a Transistor Amplifier
- 1). Place the transistor in the prototyping board with each of its three legs in its own row. Consult the transistor's spec sheet to determine which leg is the collector, which is the base, and which is the emitter.
- 2). Connect one lead of the speaker to the collector of the transistor, and the other to the positive voltage rail of the board.
- 3). Connect the emitter of the transistor to the ground rail of the board with a piece of wire.
- 4). Connect one leg of the 100 kilohm resistor to the positive voltage rail, and the other leg to the base of the transistor.
- 5). Connect the positive (longer) leg of the capacitor to the base of the transistor. Connect the capacitor's negative leg to an unused row on the board.
- 6). Connect the positive lead of the battery holder to the positive voltage rail of the board, and the negative lead to the ground rail.
- 7). Connect the tip contact of the TRS connector to the negative leg of the capacitor with a piece of wire. Connect the sleeve contact to the ground rail with a piece of wire.
- 8). Plug the TRS connector into your music player, and play some music at the lowest volume possible. Insert the battery into the connector, then slowly raise the volume to hear your music amplified through the speaker.
