The kitchen is often the largest working area within the home. It must accommodate food preparation, cooking, cleaning and a number of other activities. Pegboard is one of the simple and affordable ways to organize all of the daily activities in a quick, easy to use manner that is flexible and fully customizable to accommodate any need or design style. Pegboard comes in wood, plastic or metal and you can paint or stain it to match any design concept.

    Pegboard Wall Projects

    • Determine the amount of space you have on your wall to work with. Measure and cut a piece of pegboard to fit your dimensions. Prime and paint the board to complement your existing décor. Insert pegboard hooks; use a variety of hooks to accommodate as many items as possible. Insert the hooks through the pegboard holes and you’re ready to hang anything from pots and pans to cleaning cloths, brushes and strainers.
Another neat idea is to attach short bungee cords to the pegboard hooks or insert the bungee hooks into the pegboard holes. Hang a magazine over the line, using the bungee cord line as a bookmark so you can easily find a new recipe or tip to use later in the week.
Another pegboard wall project that allows for storing canisters is to use actual wood shelving. For this project, cut pieces of 1-by-4 wood to fit the length of the necessary shelf. Drill holes in the wood and insert straight pegboard hooks into the holes. Slip the hooks into the pegboard and hang the shelf on the pegboard wall. Since the hooks are at an angle, all of the weight rests in the back of the shelf, keeping items from slipping off.

    Pegboard Cabinet Projects

    • These pegboard projects free up cabinet space inside the cabinets by creating extra storage for items on the inside of the cabinet doors. Hang a piece of pegboard inside the cabinet door and attach small wire baskets to store sponges, rags and other cleaning items. Use tempered pegboard if you’re going with wood because it’s resistant to water. The baskets can also create tidy storage for all those plastic lids and flat cookie sheets.

    Pegboard Door Projects

    • By replacing old cabinet face panels or bi-fold pantry doors with pegboard, you can hang items on both sides of the cabinet and door to fully maximize the space in the kitchen. Hang memo boards and grocery lists on these doors to make it easy to stay on top of what the household needs. Brooms, mops and other cleaning materials hang easily on pegboard hooks and stay off the floor to prevent messes and bent bristles. By attaching a few clips to long project boards, you can create an entire space for children to hang their artwork, freeing up the fridge. Hang chalkboards, dry erase boards or even rolls of paper from pegboard hooks to keep little ones entertained while you cook and clean. Use semi-gloss or high gloss paint to make clean-up a breeze. Pegboard hooks can hold a variety of items as long as the boards are secured with sturdy hardware.
