Top 5 tips for keeping costs down on your ski or snowboard holiday
1) Always book your ski essentials such as lift passes, equipment hire and any tuition you want before you go. The reason being they will generally be more expensive in resort (particularly with the weakening Euro). We also offer a lift pass and tuition price promise, guaranteeing that you won't find it cheaper in resort. If you do, we'll give you the difference back. Look out for special offers on Ski Essentials and accommodation highlighted on our website.
2) Neilsons catered chalets are a fantastic way to cut down on spending while you're in the mountains as the only meal that isn't included is lunch. Breakfast, afternoon tea with a freshly baked cake everyday and a three course evening meal with complimentary wine are all included in your holiday cost.
3) One way to spend less on lunch is to head back to the resort instead of eating at the pricier restaurants on the mountain. As there's more choice and competition for business in the resort centre, you'll find that the prices tend to be a lot more reasonable.
4) If this is going to be your first Neilson winter sports holiday, try to avoid the better known resorts as they tend to be more expensive. Head for places like Andorra , Bulgaria or Livigno in Italy as, not only are things like food and drink cheaper but the cost of the Ski Essentials tend to be a lot more reasonable. For example, a full ski pack (six days lift pass, equipment and tuition) in Courchevel in France starts from 379. The same pack in Borovets in Bulgaria is just 163! That's a massive 216 saving! Need we say more!
5) And lastly, something that catches plenty of people out, but you won't find out about until after you've returned is to tell your mobile phone network that you're travelling abroad. Roaming charges when you're on holiday can be really high, but most companies have lower charges if you tell them that you're going. Also, if you have a smart phone, turn the internet access off so that you don't get a nasty shock when your next monthly bill comes in, otherwise you may well need another holiday!
"Hopefully, by using some or all of these handy tips, you'll have saved enough money to treat yourself to that rum spiked hot chocolate on the mountain and book your next trip when you get home! See you in the mountains!" says Paul.
