    Operating System, CPU and System Memory

    • Each Panasonic Toughbook CF-74 has either the Windows Vista Business or Windows XP Professional operating system installed, symbolizing the manufacturer's marketing focus on corporate users. Panasonic also installs an Intel Core 2 P8600 vPro processor on it: a central processing unit with a processing speed of 2.4 gigahertz and front-side bus speed of 1,066 megahertz. The system offers 2 gigabytes of DDR2 SDRAM. However, users can upgrade the RAM to 4GB.

    Disk Drives and Audio/Video

    • CF-74 models have 160GB of hard drive storage space, as well as a CD/DVD optical drive that has dual-layer support. The audio capabilities consist of an integrated Intel High Definition Audio-compliant sound driver, a pair of stereo speakers, and jacks for headphones and microphones. The video/graphics controller is also integrated: an Intel GM45 that supports the computer's screen display with up to 1,024 by 768 pixels in resolution.

    Communications

    • Each Panasonic CF-74 has a 56-kilobit-per-second modem and 10/100/100 Ethernet. Some models come with wireless connectivity consisting of the Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 5100 802.11a/b/g and Bluetooth V2.0 + EDR standards. Users have the choice of getting a Toughbook with integrated 3G broadband capability.

      Besides the aforementioned audio jacks, the CF-74's external interfaces include RJ-11 and RJ-45 connectors for the modem and Ethernet, respectively; external computer monitor port; two USB 2.0 ports for data; and a docking connector. Additionally, expansion slots exist for PC Card, Secure Digital and ExpressCards formats.

    Physical and Power Specs

    • The physical dimensions for each machine in the Panasonic CF-74 series consist of an 11.6-inch length, 12-inch width, and 1.7- to 2.4-inch height from front to back. Also, it has a 13.3-inch LCD touch screen and an 87-key keyboard with a dedicated Windows button. The AC power adapter, in addition to providing power, takes up to four-and-a-half hours to charge its 7,800-milliampere-hour lithium-ion battery, which can provide up to eight hours of battery life.
