Valentine Dinner Ideas for a Group
- Valentine celebrations can often feel repetitive unless you get creative.valentine candy image by William Berry from Fotolia.com
Whether you're a group of single friends or couples spending the holiday together, group dinners for Valentine's Day are enjoyable and can bring more excitement to the holiday. It can be difficult to plan a dinner that feels less like a group outing and more like a celebration. People often opt for restaurants with romantic ambiances or themed parties to pull the celebration together. - Fondue is a romantic way to enjoy dinner.vaiselle a fondue image by Julia Britvich from Fotolia.com
Restaurants specializing in fondue are a great place for groups---especially those looking for a romantic setting. Order a few different things for the table and you can all enjoy them together. Fondue restaurants will place pots in the center of the table with different fondues and provide each patron a skewer for dipping. Dishes will typically include various melted cheeses and meats for dipping. Oil fondues are usually paired with tempura-battered meats, shrimp or vegetables. Enjoy various fruits, sponge cakes or marshmallows dipped in an array of melted chocolates for dessert. Although creating fondue dishes at home can be tricky, it's not impossible. Stick to restaurants if you're a beginner in the kitchen to avoid stress and any mistakes. - Ask each guest to bring a dish to the party as a contribution. After dinner your group can play party games or put on a romantic movie for everyone to enjoy over dessert. Some party games to consider are Taboo, Cranium or Battle of the Sexes. Casablanca, It Happened One Night, and An Officer and a Gentleman are some classic romantic movie choices to suit the Valentine's Day mood. A potluck allows everyone to add something and dinner at home can often be cheaper. Use 1920s-style decorations and ask everyone to dress accordingly or enforce a black-and-white-only dress code. Women can play with flapper-inspired outfits and men can channel the famously suave James Bond with a black-and-white theme.
- Change things up a little bit and take your group to a dinner show. Search for Polynesian Luau, Arabian Nights, Murder Mystery or Medieval Times themed shows in your area. While the food may not be phenomenal, your group will enjoy the show and it'll provide entertainment and a conversation topic for the rest of the night. Dinner shows are meant to get the audience involved---whether it's learning how to dance the hula, rooting for the knight of your choice, or unraveling the murder mystery, dinner theatre will engage your group and provide a Valentine's Day memory they'll be sure to remember.
- Take your group out to a karaoke bar for laughs. Friends can take turns belting out favorite love songs over margaritas, beer or their drink of choice. This is a cheaper option---most karaoke bars don't require a cover fee and you can reserve space for your party ahead of time. Karaoke provides a way for guests to interact not only with their own party, but also with other patrons. Dinner options will usually be limited to finger foods and appetizer-style foods, although some venues offer full menus.
