A variety of materials like cellulose, aluminum foil, glass, foam etc are used for insulation purpose. But one of the more preferred insulation materials is foam. Regardless of the fact that foam insulation products are costlier than other types of insulating equipments, it is broadly used.
Higher cost may however be reasonable as R-values of the foam insulations vary from R-4 to R-8 per inch of width. This is approximately three times extra than most other insulating resources of similar width. It is also seen that if appropriately installed, foam insulation is a lot more efficient than the rest.
When it comes to foam insulation there are mainly three options - extruded expanded Polystyrene (XEPS)/ molded expanded Polystyrene (MEPS) or Polyurethane or Polyisocyanurate. Any of these should give you with very efficient insulation. Foam insulation can be completed as a liquid or using factory made spray boards.
Liquid foam insulation is completed either by applying from minute spray containers as a fluid or by means of a force sprayed product for weighty duty applications. Both types enlarge and go hard as the chemical mix cures. Both foam boards and spray foam are evenly adaptable and can be used to insulate walls, roofs, entry, foundations and pipes, overhead garage doors and tanks, over a slab-on-grade floor or under basement slabs.
Be it any type of foam insulation, you must be concerned to defend it from straight sunlight as the sun's UV rays have the latent to harm them. For roofs, it's preferable to apply a covering of acrylic/ tar/ rubberized/ silicone paint. Or else, you can also wrap the foam with a plastic or rubber covering or a coating of asphalt and roofing felt. Foam board insulation is extremely efficient in preventing the cruel summer heat from stabbing into your house. It would also help you save energy and save on your utility bills. Foam board insulation is a stiff foam sheet, typically four by eight feet (1.2 by 2.4 m) in size, used in almost all aspects of building structure to provide thermal confrontation in ceilings, floors and walls.
Polyisocyanurate and Polyurethane foam board are very comparable in content. Foam board insulation is normally placed between the studs of exterior walls and the exterior finish. To prevent air penetration, it is essential to place rigid insulation boards strongly mutually and seal the seams with caulk or tape. Polystyrene foam board insulation is completed in much the same way as Polyisocyanurate and Polyurethane foam boards, apart from for the differences in expansion.
