When toying with the idea of buying your first pair of clipless pedals, some people do not know where to start and what to expect, to some the thought of using clipless pedals for the first time can be a daunting thought.
Clipless pedals are a great asset to any rider and the pros far out weight the cons with the ability too actually pedal "in a circle," which will apply more power to all parts of your stroke, for a smoother and faster ride, which in turn will help you become a better rider.
Each new user must first accept that the chances of falling are real, most new users will only have the embarrassment once or twice while using clipless pedals out on the road but it is all part of the learning curve.
When you have taken the decision on going with clipless pedals you need time to adjust and get familiar with your new setup.
The best way to practice with your new clipless pedals is too plan your route, paying a lot of attention to your starting and stopping places.
The best starting and stopping places will be structures such as street lights and walls and then moving onto small walls once you have the knack of unclipping from your pedals without to much difficulty.
If you are still struggling with clipping in and out then simply practicing clipping in and out without moving off will get you into the routine and used to the action required without risking injury to you and others around you.
This can easily be done inside while watching TV or listening to music by using a doorway or or a wall to prop yourself up, making sure you have ample clear space around you to avoid injuring yourself on household objects.
A good place to start for beginners are clipless pedals with tension adjustment, being able too adjust the settings on the pedals allows you to set how loose or stiff the pedals are to clip in and out from.
Beginners are better to start out with very little added tension, this will allow you to easily clip in and unclip from the pedals, you can then tighten the tension as you get more confident with your new setup.
As you tighten the tension on the pedals you will soon find your perfect setup and will be clipping in and out with ease.
