    Vehicle Mandates

    • In the state of Maryland, the following vehicle are required to have Emergency Warning Lights: school vehicles, fire trucks, police cars and ambulances. Warning Lights must be red, white or blue for these vehicles. Yellow amber lights can be used for farm vehicles, mail trucks or tow trucks to indicate slow-moving conditions. Green flashlights on taxicabs are permitted to signal hold-ups.

    • Motorists must stop and pull over to the roadside when emergency vehicles are flashing lights.

    Warning

    • Laser lights, neon tubes and other flashing lights mounted to the exterior or within the interior of the car are not approved for use on Maryland vehicles. Any after-market device purchased for a vehicle has to be reviewed and approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles Administrator.
